Five Translation and Interpreting colleagues at the University of Birmingham, specialising in Arabic, Chinese and Italian, are facing compulsory redundancy. Birmingham UCU has launched a petition calling on the University to halt the compulsory redundancies and engage meaningfully with alternatives. The petition has already gathered around 500 signatures in its first two days, and colleagues are hoping to reach 1,000 before a Birmingham UCU meeting on Thursday, 17 September.
