About the Inclusive Pedagogies SIG

The Inclusive Pedagogies SIG is dedicated to advancing good practice in inclusive and accessible education across language teaching.

We welcome teachers, researchers, managers, professional services staff, and student support professionals working in Higher, Further, or Secondary Education. We also welcome colleagues from any discipline whose work intersects with language and language learning, and multilingualism.

Cross-disciplinary perspectives are invaluable to furthering inclusive education, and the SIG recognises that inclusive pedagogies benefit from diverse voices and approaches.

Our work spans a wide range of initiatives aimed at enhancing teaching, assessment, and student support within diverse learning contexts. These include locally developed practices, collaborative projects with colleagues and students, and larger-scale research endeavours — all shaped by disciplinary, institutional, and sectoral considerations.

Objectives of the SIG

  1. Support and promote inclusive practices in language education.
  2. Build and sustain a dedicated Community of Practice for sharing inclusive pedagogies across sectors and disciplines.
  3. Provide opportunities to explore and develop the role of language and language learning within inclusive pedagogies.
  4. Share and disseminate information about events, workshops, and initiatives that advance inclusive and accessible learning and teaching.

These objectives will be achieved through:

  1. Dissemination of good practice through SIG conferences, events, and publications.
  2. Delivery of AULC Conference workshops and sessions.
  3. Collaboration with cross-disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and international initiatives that foster inclusive learning and teaching.
  4. Promotion of events and activities centred on inclusive pedagogies.
